It’s a General Assembly summer for us Presbyterians.
And I know what that means. Those gathered in Portland will approve things I would dismiss. And they will dismiss things I would approve.
I know this already, because it happens every time our General Assembly meets. Heck, it happens every time my family gets together. So why should this gathering be any different?
But even though my prediction will surely come true, I am glad to be connected to the people who will gather in Portland.
Several years ago, my friend Chris wrote a piece in answer to the question so many of us get. “Why are you still a Presbyterian?” I’m reading it again before this summer’s Assembly.
I’m hoping that when I’m tempted to be upset by what “they” (actually, there is only “we”) do that I will find troubling, that these words will remind me of why I’m (still) Presbyterian too. And proudly so.
